Watts Clever STC-4004 Advanced Instructions ** this document is work in progress **

This article applies to:

Current Cost - ENVI

Watts Clever - STC-4004 now discontinued

The above models of wireless energy monitors have introduced some differences to the original STC-4002 and CLASSIC models, In particular the XML like file output has changed and the frequency in which is delivered from the STC-4004\ENVI is significantly different. In my personal view these changes have not added any significant value to the product and in some cases are a real pain. In my view the earlier STC-4002\CLASSIC is my favourite device and has been more reliable when comparing both monitors side by side.

In this document I will start to detail the differences that will assist customers who have purchased the STC-4004 \ ENVI.

Serial to USB Cable

The STC-4004\ENVI Wireless Energy Monitor requires different port settings compared to earlier models.

As shown on the left the port settings required are:

  • Port : This will be the port assigned in Windows Device Manager
  • Baud Rate: This should be set to 57600 baud, any other baud rate will result in garbage or applications may hang or crash.
  • Parity: This should be none.
  • Stop Bits: One
  • Data Bits: 8

Factory Reset

The following procedure will reset the STC-4004\ENVI to factory default settings,  **Warning** this will reset everything including stored data and pairing details for the transmitter.

Hold down any 2 of the buttons when powering up the device and it will reset everything to factory defaults.

  1. Release held down buttons and cycle power off/on again.
  2. Configure your settings
  3. Pair with transmitter
